If you are claustrophobic then you better go somewhere else. We then bushwacked down the steep side of Island Pond Mountain going back to Crooked Road, which we took back to our car. The skill it takes to hike this is beginners level imo. ago Yeah both directions out of the lehigh gap arent great for water sources either, if a hydration challenge is what you want. Depending which side of the gap and which route you take it can be pretty rocky and technical. We squeezed through the Lemon Squeezer and climbed up the mountain, and took a short bushwack a the top to the Island Pond Mountain view. Its a similar hike as Mt Tammany/Minsi with about 1000ft of climbing and connects up to the AT. The Labyrinth hike is one of the best day hikes near NYC in my opinion and while it is tough in parts, it’s very fun and worth trying out. We then turned back and took the Appalachian Trail to the east, to the Lemon Squeezer. The hike ends at a place called Lemon Squeezer where you will go up stairways which takes you to an awesome overlook of the Catskill Mountains and Mohonk Preserve. We took Crooked Road, which is a bit overgrown, down to the Appalachian Trail, which we then took for a short detour to the north shore of Island Pond.
